Hemendranath Majumdar was an Indian painter.He was born in Bongaigaon in India on April 14, 1894. He is well known for his realistic techniques in his paintings. He was adept at oils and water colors. He is the one who stands between the painters Babu Rao, Raja Ravi Verma who used realist techniques
In 1910, he joined Govt. School of Art, Calcutta and from 1911-15 Studied at Jubilee Art School, Calcutta.
In 1919, he founded Indian Academy of Fine Art in Calcutta along with Jogeshchandra Seal, Jamini Roy, Bhabani Charan Law and Atul Bosehe artist particularity became well known for partially draped paintings of female beauty.
The Toilet is an age-old tradional theme in Indian art but Muzumdar has given it a fresh treatment. His handling of drapery and the smooth sensuous skin of the women's back are superb.
