Now a days , we are hearing a word every where in the internet is "twitter". So many people, celebrities, companies are using the twitter. What is so special with twitter? why all the people where so crazy about the twitter? we will digg about the twitter and reasons caused to its popularity.

What is twitter?

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the author's profile page and delivered to the author's subscribers who are known as followers. Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) or external applications. While the service itself costs nothing to use, accessing it through SMS may incur phone service provider fees.

Who made it?

Twitter is a privately funded startup with offices in the SoMA neighborhood of San Francisco, CA. Started as a side project in March of 2006, Twitter has grown into a real-time short messaging service that works over multiple networks and devices.
The key people for this are Jack Dorsey (chairman), Evan Williams (CEO), Biz Stone (Creative Director).
Jack Dorsey is an American software architect and businessperson best known as the creator of Twitter.
Evan Williams is an American entrepreneur who has founded several Internet companies, including Pyra Labs (creator of weblog-authoring software Blogger) and Twitter, of which he is currently CEO.
Biz Stone is a co-founder and Creative Director of Twitter, Inc and also helped to create and launch Xanga, Blogger, Odeo, and Obvious. He has published two books about blogging, Blogging: Genius Strategies for Instant Web Content (New Riders, 2002) and Who Let The Blogs Out? (St Martins, 2004).
The first prototype was built in two weeks in March 2006 and launched publicly in August of 2006. The service grew popular very quickly and it soon made sense for Twitter to move outside of Obvious. In May 2007, Twitter Incorporated was founded.
Dorsey, Stone and Williams co-founded Obvious which then spun off Twitter. In October 2008, Williams became CEO of Twitter, displacing Jack Dorsey who became chairman of the board and Biz Stone as a creative head.

This is one important aspect of the twitter success. Twitter features are available in variety formats like apis, widgets, feeds ..etc .The people who are having own websites, are encouraged to use twitter by the visitors.

Making money from twitter:

Twitter is a massive communication media the people who are having huge number of followers, they can use twitters in the following ways to make money.

• Direct Advertisements - you can advertise directly to all your followers
• Affiliate marketing - you can post some links or product pages to the followers to subscribe them.

Still, any limitations?

The biggest limitation in twitter is maintaining the conversations. Other social bookmarking sites like facebook, orkut are very efficient to maintain conversations, but twitter is facing some limitations to maintain conversations.
